When providing your child with pediatric or orthodontic treatment, Dr. Rita Daghlian and Dr. Paul Sokolowski may use digital X-rays. This imaging technology helps us view your child’s teeth and mouth in detail so that we can diagnose developing problems, create effective treatment plans and ensure your child receives the care they need.
What Are Digital X-Rays?
Digital X-rays are a valuable tool and a vital technology here at Daghlian Pediatric Dentistry & Sokolowski Orthodontics. This device uses a small digital sensor to capture images of your child’s teeth and supporting oral structures. This imaging process is quick to complete, requiring just a few seconds to take pictures. Our pediatric dentist, orthodontist and team will make sure that your child is as comfortable as possible while their X-rays are taken.
Captured images are immediately transmitted to a nearby monitor where we can view them. These images show your child’s mouth in detail, which we will discuss with you so that you can understand exactly what is happening in your child’s mouth and make fully informed decisions about any additional care they may need.
X-rays are typically taken during your child’s routine dental exams, or as needed if they have an emergency, sustain an injury or before they receive any additional treatments.
How Digital X-Rays Can Help
Digital X-rays are a highly versatile tool, and are used to diagnose and plan treatments for a wide variety of oral health conditions. Some of the conditions which our pediatric dentist may use digital X-rays to identify and resolve include:
- Tooth decay
- Developmental abnormalities
- Improper tooth root positioning
- Cysts, abscesses and tumors
- Infection
- Fractures or cracking in the teeth
Our orthodontist also uses X-rays to plan orthodontic treatments and ensure that your child’s smile is progressing as planned.
Your Child’s Health & Safety
Here at Daghlian Pediatric Dentistry & Sokolowski Orthodontics, we understand that your child’s health and safety are paramount. Many people have concerns about the safety of X-rays. In the past, film X-rays have required the use of specialized equipment to protect your child from radiation as well as a longer wait-time and the use of chemicals to develop the images of your child’s mouth. Digital X-rays have made taking X-rays safer and more comfortable as well as faster.
Digital X-rays are extremely safe for your child to receive. In fact, your child is exposed to more radiation from the sun in their day-to-day life than they are from an X-ray. And X-rays are only becoming safer and more efficient as technology continues to develop! Our office also complies with regulations to check our X-ray machines for safety and accuracy.
